Errand Lasses & Buffer Girls.  In the Sheffield cutlery industry in the early 20th century the Buffers were renowned for their cheery disposition, feisty manner and colourful language. It was their job to polish up the fine silver and cutlery, and the buffing shop was very much a female domain.
