Whitsuntide Clothes. The Whit Walks were a big tradition in the North of England, and to celebrate the birth of the Christian Church parents would buy their children Whitsuntide clothes. For many it was the only time they would have new clothes, the rest of the year it was hand me downs. It was new everything, from knickers to hair ribbon, not forgetting of course, the liberty bodice.
